It was made by the McDowell Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is made of steel and works as designed. The gun itself is 13 inches long in the closed position and 20 inches long in the cocked position. It has various scrapes to the paint, but most is still there and it displays nicely. Still has the decal which is all but about 1% still there. the gu works by 'cocking' it, which moves paper in front of the barrell. Then when the slide is pushed in rapidly, a loud retort is made. It is actually very loud. I tried it once to make sure it works. There are several extra paper rolls, which suggests this toy was played with for about 10 minutes and then put away for who knows how many years. There are three unused rolls that are loose and four that are still in the package. The box says that 'Reloads can be purchased at all up-to-date Toy Shops' although I think that guarantee expired over 60 years ago. The box is rough. One end piece is separated, but is still present for reattaching by an expert. Loss of litho and splits in several places. The name Duane is written in pencil next to where the air pushes out. Duane--here's a chance to get your toy back. One of the fun things about this toy is the saying on the front: SAFE AND SANE. Interesting. Overall, this is a very scarce gun, not one you will likely ever see anywhere else, especially in this condition, with the box, and with paper for firing. A real beauty. There is a small patent date on the decal which my information indicates a 1927 patent. It appears to be of this vintage. Our policies Paypal, money orders & checks. We are most comfortable shipping to "Confirmed" Paypal addresses. If you haven't established "Confirmed" status, we would recommend that you do. It makes transactions much easier. Method of shipping. Items shipped to the United States will be shipped Priority Mail, First Class, or Parcel Post. On occasion we might use a shipping service. Once in awhile, generally for large items, we will have to find out the best way of shipping after you tell us you would like to purchase the item. Insurance. In 6+ years of selling on the internet we have had no occasions where the postal service lost an item. We haven't had an item we have shipped arrive damaged in years. The postal service is very reliable. However, we insure higher priced items for everyone's protection. If something unfortunate happens we will send you the appropriate forms so you can make a claim at the post office. We can't do that for you, unfortunately. The postal service will (eventually) send you a refund check for the cost of them item and postage. They won't send you a refund for the cost of the insurance--we will do that. International buyers. Many internet sites and many sellers on eBay will not sell to international buyers. We appreciate international customers. If you are an international buyer, please contact us directly for shipping and sales cost rather than using the shopping cart. Sales tax & tax-id numbers. We have to pay sales tax on items shipped to Illinois. If your shipping address is in Illinois, we will add 7% Illinois state tax to your total. However, it you have a tax-id number for resale, just provide us with the number. That way neither of us has to pay sales tax. We don't always like where our tax money goes, but we keep careful records and pay sales and income tax on all of our sales. Email us with questions about items.
